How the Australian Gas Market Works: A primer from AEMO Register

Overview

The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is responsible for the day to day operation of Eastern Australia's Gas and Electricity markets.

Join AEMO's experts on all things gas, Robbie Flood and Nicole Dodd, who will explain the complexities of how our gas market works to match supply and demand, and look at the challenges currently encountered in Eastern Australia's gas supply. Key topics we will cover include:

- How the gas market is “cleared” on a day to day basis, ie. how AEMO ensures that the right amount of gas is produced daily to meet demand, including the use of line pack and storage

- Medium term contracting: How do large (and medium) gas users contract with suppliers to ensure availability?

- Long-term strategic concerns in gas supply: AEMO's role in facilitating markets for LNG import and export.
