  • Introduction
    Discuss the documents you've written with all course participants; examine the key steps involved in writing effective technical documents.
  • Audience analysis
    Learn how to tailor written copy to suit different audiences whether they be managers, clients, technical experts or the general community.
    Apply techniques to integrate the appropriate tone for your audience.
  • Organise information
    Learn strategies to prioritise and categorise information so that you can make insightful decisions about the relevance and appropriate level of detail required in copy. Also learn how to provide ‘signposts’ to keep your audience on-track when reading complex documents.
  • Write with clarity, power and impact
    Create clear and concise technical documents and demonstrate the flexibility of writing for different audiences, from experts to non-experts. Participants will also apply a readability formula to their own documents.
    Learn how to write 'correct' paragraphs and well-constructed sentences, while using words that avoid confusion and ambiguity.
    Understand the relevance of correct grammar and punctuation.
  • Optimise layout
    Achieve a consistent, clear and uncluttered look to technical documents. Learn the appropriate numbering systems for long documents; know the current standard regarding integrating graphics into text.
  • Quality assurance
    You will have opportunities throughout the course to review participants’ sample documents, including reports, tenders, specifications, correspondence or emails.
  • Apply effective proofreading strategies
    Learn strategies to be more effective when proofreading and how to give and receive feedback.
