Engineering and the Circular Economy Register

Circular Economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life. As engineers in a modern world we have the opportunity to discover and develop sustainable design and engineering methods to improve the reuse, repair, remanufacturing and recycling of products for a circular economy.

Shaun Deverson, principal consultant of Light House Road Pty. Ltd and a Civil and Environmental Engineer, will look at the Circular Economy Concept through an engineering lens providing an overview into:

  • Circular Design
  • Circular Maintenance - reuse, repair, modification, overhaul etc
  • Future waste management
  • Material Science
  • Leadership

Shaun’s presentation is designed to create the awareness around waste from engineered sources and how as engineers, we can consider our designs in light of a Circular Economy.

Presenter: Shaun Deverson
A Leadership, Complexity and Sustainability Strategist, I partner with business leaders to build resilience and win in today's complex operating environment. After spending nearly twenty years working in a multitude of industries including Defence, Aerospace, Construction, Mining and Local Government, I know what truly drives organisational sustainability in the 21st Century — and it’s not mastering the latest management fad or flavour of the week. It’s how well you connect with the heart-beating people you work with and the communities you work within.

Before starting up consulting firm Lighthouse Road, I enjoyed a successful Executive and Leadership career including being the Board Member and Director of a manufacturing firm, Commercial Manager within a US multinational corporation and 6 years in the Royal Australian Navy. My qualifications include a Masters Business and Technology from the University of New South Wales and Bachelor Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Technology, Sydney. Specialties: leadership, strategy, systems thinking, circular economy, ideas, human factors, organisational development, sustainability, silo destruction and having fun!
