Cethana Dam, Forth River, 1971-

Description

This 110 m high dam showed the world that high concrete faced rockfill dams could be designed and constructed with minimal leakage, in contrast to experience overseas. The compaction of the rockfill in layers and the elimination of horizontal joints in the face slabs contributed to this excellent result. When completed in 1971, it was the highest dam of this type in Australia. Many engineers from other counties inspected the dam, and its features were adopted internationally.
