Great Ocean Road, 1932-
Description
The Great Ocean Road is an example of a significant engineering and human endeavor in the construction of roads during the early 1920’s, which led to it becoming the third biggest tourist attraction in Australia because of its magnificent scenic coastal views.
The road was built by returned servicemen as a memorial to their comrades who were killed in the First World War. The road traverses land where various clans of the Wathaurong and Katabanut tribes lived for thousands of years prior to white settlement in the 1840s.
