A $4.4 billion contract to deliver 75 new trains in south east Queensland has been awarded to a Bombardier NGR consortium.
The contract is for the design, construction, financing and 32 year maintenance of the 75 six-car trains, which will be compatible with both the existing rail network and for the new Underground Bus and Train network.
The project will not only expand the existing fleet by about 30% but is intended to replace old rolling stock. It will also provide 500 full time jobs, of which 150 will be at a purpose built maintenance facility at Wulkuraka.
Arrival and testing of the first of the new trains will begin in late 2015.
