$75 million contracts awarded for NSW ITS Wednesday, 02 July 2014

NSW Roads and Maritime Services has awarded two contracts for the maintenance of intelligent transport systems (ITS) across NSW. The contracts, worth $15 million over five years, were awarded to Lend Lease Tyco (LLT) and DownerMouchel (DM). They will cover maintenance of key ITS assets including variable speed signs, traffic monitoring devices, and enforcement and advanced warning systems.

The DM contract involves the planning, design and implementation of maintenance and improvement programs for over 1400 traffic signals, 150 variable message signs, and more than 1000 other ITS assets across areas of Western Sydney and regional areas of NSW.

“This new ITS maintenance contract builds on the NSW Stewardship Maintenance model and represents the evolution of the road infrastructure market in Australia, from pure road maintenance to intelligent network management,” chief executive of Downer, Grant Fenn, said.

The LLT contract will cover the eastern parts of Sydney and will be responsible for reactive and planned maintenance, asset inspections, minor improvements works and minor capital works.

Both contracts have the option to extend for two further one-year periods and are scheduled to commence on 1 October.
