Calls for public comment on smoke control standards Friday, 21 July 2017

Intake of public comments has been opened concerning Australian Standards’ 1668.1:2015 document, which outlines requirements for the design, construction, installation and commissioning of mechanical smoke control systems in buildings.

This phase of public input forms a hugely important stage of the amendment of Australian Standards documents. Any who feel that they may have something to contribute to the issues raised in the draft standard are encouraged to make comment on the provisions of the document, recommending changes that they feel would improve the application of the standard.

Where possible, contributors are encouraged to coordinate their comments with any other standards which may hold relevance to the issue. Commenters should also provide supporting reason and suggested wording for provided comments. If a commenter considers that specific content is too simplistic, complicated or too detailed, they should provide alternative wording.

All comments provided are considered in detail by a relevant committee, and if deemed necessary, further drafting will be undertaken based on this feedback. It is important for those providing Public Comments to note that individual feedback will not be given by the respective committees on these comments.

The overall amendments created by the Public Comment process will have profound implications to the clarity and safety provisioned by this Australian standard.

Australian Standards underpin the nation's economic efficiency, international competitiveness and contribute to community demand for a safe and sustainable environment. Engineers Australia encourages its members to contribute their expertise in supporting work towards standards development.

Interested members of the public may view individual sections of the document, and submit respective comments here.

The intake of public comments for 1668.1:2015 is currently open, and will conclude at midnight on Monday, 18th September.
