Meet Your New WA President - Paul Young Wednesday, 27 March 2019

Last year 2018 President James Westcott handed me the reins of leading the Western Australian division of Engineers Australia and our executive committee.

I am honoured to represent this dedicated, hardworking and very diverse group of people from all sectors of WA’s economic and business community. It’s a fact that everyday thousands of engineering professionals and their teams, make a massive contribution to our state in terms of human capital working towards community safety and the ongoing economic growth of WA. We do this by delivering projects, small, large and massive and we do it very well.

The direction taken by Engineers Australia in Western Australia is decided and set by your WA Division Committee. The Division Committee and our General Manager Susan Kreemer Pickford meet monthly in our office in West Perth to develop tangible actions towards achieving Engineers Australia’s broader organisational goals. The committee also addresses issues specific to the West Australian engineering community.

Who is our Division executive committee?

The committee is made up of volunteers from the Engineers Australia member base and give their time freely to the organisation. Committee members are elected by members and can be appointed by the executive committee.

A bit about me - Your WA President

I have a career that spans over 30 years. I started as a draftsman with Main Roads WA and spent many years in the country regions including Kalgoorlie, Bunbury and Derby. I returned to University and obtained my Bachelor of Civil Engineering whilst working in Port Hedland with BHP Iron Ore. Since then I have completed a 12 unit Masters of Project Management majoring in Leadership and a 12 unit Masters of Business Administration majoring in finance. I have served Engineers Australia in various volunteer roles including chairing the Port Hedland regional group, volunteering for EngTalk, (a program encouraging students to pursue a career in engineering) and serving on the WA Division committee. My key career roles include manager engineering for BHP Iron Ore and Project Manager for Rio Tinto Expansion Projects. My current role is Project Manager with Engenium where I am a member of the senior leadership team and key account manager for our clients in the iron ore industry.

I’m privileged to have been selected by my fellow WA Division Committee members for the role of President and I’m excited by the task ahead. We have an energetic and diverse committee and an equally determined General Manager in Susan Kreemer Pickford who is supported by team members Nataleigh Davies, Michael Bell, Adam Nelson and Kym Sher.

I commit to keeping you informed of the key activities and outcomes so you are aware of the great work this organisation does for our chosen vocation, our industry and the broader community.

Feel free to contact me to introduce yourself and share your ideas. I am always keen to meet members and representatives of our industry.

I will be travelling extensively throughout this great state this year so chances are, where ever you are, we can catch up. Contact me via mobile phone 0417 258 342 or email [email protected]
