Qatar Chapter's Third Anniversary Celebration Friday, 16 November 2018

Engineers Australia's Qatar Chapter hosted their third-anniversary celebration dinner on Wednesday 31st October at the Hilton Doha.

The event brought together members, guests, partners, sponsors, and friends to celebrate achievements of the past 12 months and highlighted our passion and excitement for the engineering community in Qatar, especially as the 2022 World Cup spotlights Qatar to the world.

As such, this year's event focussed on the importance of sports event and venue management and athlete development in Qatar in working towards the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Throughout the evening, Master of Ceremony, Mr. Mohammed Zaoud engaged the guests with his personal experiences and humour.

Mr. Mustafa Adra, President of Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter introduced the Qatar Chapter Committee and National Team that work together to host technical talks, site visits, and Chartership workshops. Mustafa outlined the positive growth of Engineers Australia members and successful Chartership applications in Qatar. The positive feedback from events hosted in the last year also demonstrates the continued quality achieved by the committee.

Engineers Australia Chief Executive Officer, Peter McIntyre addressed guests from Melbourne Australia by video, congratulating Qatar on their successes and welcoming all to the International World Engineering Convention (WEC 2019) to be hosted in Melbourne, Australia in November 2019.

H.E. Axel Wabenhorst, Australian Ambassador to Qatar commended all engineers for their contributions on local projects and highlighted the importance of their role in the development of Qatar.

Mr. Meshal Al Shamari, Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) Director spoke about the growth of QGBC and the successful partnership with EA Qatar Chapter.

Mr. Feras Btaddini, Head of Aspire Facilities and Management, Aspire Academy provided an insight into his expertise in venue design, operational planning, and venue commercialization and outlined a number of international events that Aspire Academy have successfully hosted at Qatar's state of the art facilities.

Dr Christopher Brandner, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Aspire Academy described the talent identification process in Qatar and the development of these athletes to represent Qatar at the top sporting level.

Congratulations to our 18 Chartered Engineers and one Fellow Engineer who were recognised at this event.
